[ This is a forwarded mass-text sent to a few other people as well because he's a monster like that for simplicity and efficiency's sake, but he'll still respond if texted back. ]
[ ...But once he fiddles around with the text-to-voice function on his communicator enough, he gets the gist. That's new. There's the occasional secret party at MGA, sure, but Fortunato was never the type to be invited, nor to attend. He's also not the type to get excited about alcohol.
He should go, though, shouldn't he. He's been personally invited, and it might come off the wrong way if he refuses. A little while later, once he can actually see somewhat, he responds: ]
[ Reggie, he doesn't want to steal alcohol right now!! Not that he hasn't participated in things that are...technically illegal. He'll just...play it down... ]
Because Magnus is an incredibly responsible influence on Fortunato's life, Fortunato will be receiving a knife for Candlenights. Its wooden handle fits in Fortunato's hand perfectly, curved in all the right places, and it contains an intricate carving that matches his cane. Now Fortunato is coordinated. ]
Fortunato's surprised at such a nice gift. He doesn't really feel as if he deserves it- he's not done much for Magnus besides be constantly in or around peril, he thinks, and he would have been satisfied with nothing, himself. But he'd tried to get Magnus something special as a thank you for his help as of late.
The thing is? That gift is also a knife.
(It's a carving knife. But still.)
Soon after Fortunato finds the gift, he finds Magnus in the house. He's holding a small box. ]
[ Merry Christmas, Fortunato! When they meet at Church for Christmas, Fortunato will receive a woven bracelet (sorry for his lack of fashion sense) and a small box of chocolates. ]
[ Magnus had just gotten back home after a long day of deliveries and is currently, quite contentedly, sitting on the ground and smushing Jesse's face. Jesse is as patient as he is large, and is allowing for it.
[ Fortunato wasn't expecting anything from Jaime; he doesn't really consider himself a close friend of his, and further, he knows Jaime must be stressed and worried out of his mind as of late.
But Fortunato had wanted to get him something, so he takes the gifts in one hand and holds out a small package with the other. ]
You- you did not have to do that. Thank you. [ He doesn't quite smile, but there's a softness to his tone. ] This is for you.
[ In the package is a very nice, expensive-looking hardcover Bible. Fortunato may put more importance on things like this than most boys his age. But he was hoping Jaime would enjoy it. ]
[ Fortunato isn't exactly close to either of the dogs yet, but they're pretty good dogs, and Magnus clearly adores them. He takes a moment to figure out how Magnus wants him to respond. ]
It's nice. [ It is! Jesse's a good dog!
But obviously that's not his priority right now. He holds out the box a bit. ]
I- I was going to give this to you on Christmas. But...I thought you may want it now, for your holiday.
[ He doesn't exactly get Candlenights yet, but it seems like the right thing to do. ]
[ Magnus beams. It's nice isn't how he'd describe it but he has a tendency to hear exactly what he wants to hear when it comes to his dogs. That, and he's petting one right now. That always puts him in a better mood. There's something to that, he always thinks. ]
What, you got me something? [ Magnus finally gets up and takes the box. He knows that Fortunato trusts him. If he didn't, he wouldn't be living here, and they sure as hell wouldn't have gone through all that they've gone through together. But he's such a solemn little fellow that he's not sure if Fortunato particularly likes him.
He may not be the most self-aware person in the world, but even Magnus realizes that he's a lot for some people, especially if they happen to be more reserved in nature. And that's fine! But he's still touched that Fortunato thought of him. ]
For Candlenights, yeah. I'll tell you all about it later. Thanks!
[ And then, of course, he immediately tears it open. ]
[oh no how charming!! look at him being all hip with the lingo.
it... looks like a Red emoji.... :(
ANYWAY, let "shortly" be 20 or 30 minutes until she's knocking, applecheeked with her hair kind of windswept from the trip, clad in the fancy, fur-trimmed cloak Darin made for her. she's hugging the gift box in her arms when he appears, and she smiles.]
Haa, hello! Merry Christmas, Fortunato! Again, that is. I'm sorry I didn't bring this with me when we visited the church...
[ For someone who's been home all day, Fortunato certainly looks put together; he's as well-dressed as he usually is, as if he had school. He looks behind him as he opens the door- thankfully, the dogs are both asleep. ]
Shh- [ He doesn't want to wake them up. He looks back at her, speaking quietly. The cloak is new, isn't it. ]
Hello. And- it is fine. I did not bring your gift, either.
[ He steps back to let her in. The house isn't particularly messy- he has a habit of cleaning up after others, in an attempt to keep things peaceful. But it's clearly quite lived-in, and there's plenty of signs of Fortunato's housemates around; carving, schoolbooks, food dishes for the pets. ]
[ Yeah, Magnus would just go ahead and tear it open, wouldn't he. But Fortunato finds that sheer happiness at the gift comforting.
In the wooden box is the carving knife he bought Magnus. It's an incredibly nice one, and he had to look around to find one he thought was sufficient. The handle has designs of animals on it, though it's unfortunately not customized enough for all those animals to be dogs- it's forest animals, bears and deer and the like.
Oh-- [she brings a gloved hand to her mouth at his shushing, smiling apologetically behind it. once inside with door closed, she sets to getting de-winterized quietly, tucking her scarf and gloves in the sleeve of her undercoat and hanging that up with the cloak.
quietly:] It feels very cozy in here. Do you like it?
