[ This is a forwarded mass-text sent to a few other people as well because he's a monster like that for simplicity and efficiency's sake, but he'll still respond if texted back. ]
[ ...But once he fiddles around with the text-to-voice function on his communicator enough, he gets the gist. That's new. There's the occasional secret party at MGA, sure, but Fortunato was never the type to be invited, nor to attend. He's also not the type to get excited about alcohol.
He should go, though, shouldn't he. He's been personally invited, and it might come off the wrong way if he refuses. A little while later, once he can actually see somewhat, he responds: ]
Because Magnus is an incredibly responsible influence on Fortunato's life, Fortunato will be receiving a knife for Candlenights. Its wooden handle fits in Fortunato's hand perfectly, curved in all the right places, and it contains an intricate carving that matches his cane. Now Fortunato is coordinated. ]
Fortunato's surprised at such a nice gift. He doesn't really feel as if he deserves it- he's not done much for Magnus besides be constantly in or around peril, he thinks, and he would have been satisfied with nothing, himself. But he'd tried to get Magnus something special as a thank you for his help as of late.
The thing is? That gift is also a knife.
(It's a carving knife. But still.)
Soon after Fortunato finds the gift, he finds Magnus in the house. He's holding a small box. ]
[ Magnus had just gotten back home after a long day of deliveries and is currently, quite contentedly, sitting on the ground and smushing Jesse's face. Jesse is as patient as he is large, and is allowing for it.
[ Merry Christmas, Fortunato! When they meet at Church for Christmas, Fortunato will receive a woven bracelet (sorry for his lack of fashion sense) and a small box of chocolates. ]
[ Fortunato wasn't expecting anything from Jaime; he doesn't really consider himself a close friend of his, and further, he knows Jaime must be stressed and worried out of his mind as of late.
But Fortunato had wanted to get him something, so he takes the gifts in one hand and holds out a small package with the other. ]
You- you did not have to do that. Thank you. [ He doesn't quite smile, but there's a softness to his tone. ] This is for you.
[ In the package is a very nice, expensive-looking hardcover Bible. Fortunato may put more importance on things like this than most boys his age. But he was hoping Jaime would enjoy it. ]
You know I could be saying the same to you, right?
[ The gift makes him smile, though. His relationship to his religion is anything but straightforward, but it's a kind gift, and one that means a lot - even if his relationship to religion has been bumpy over the years, it's provided him with solace and peace nonetheless. ]
[ Oh. Fuu didn't have to do that, is his first thought- although he's thought that about every gift he's gotten. It's a kind thing for her to do, he thinks, particularly when she must know very well how fleeting relationships can be here.
She'll get a voice message about a day later. ]
Fuu? I received your card. [ His tone is a little milder than usual. ] Thank you. It is very nice.
[ Somehow, giving Fortunato chocolates is the most difficult. Not because Sabrina doesn't want to, but because of recent events where they were forced to admit things to each other they didn't want to.
But... she'll try to push past it. It is Valentine's, after all.
So, Fortunato will find a small box addressed to him and inside it homemade chocolates.
A note attached says:
Happy Valentine's Day, Fortunato! I hope you enjoy. Sabrina Spellman ]
[ Hmmm. Well. He's going to be thinking about what this means constantly now.
...Anyway, she'll get an extremely standard thank you card slipped under her door within the next day. All it says is Thank you for the chocolate - Fortunato. ]
[ Her voice is heavy, almost like she's been crying. She has been in between panicked arguments with Salem, futile attempts with her magic, and trying to contact Reggie.
It's all gone. The house, the pieces that managed to come with, even Reggie has disappeared. All that's left is the chest Magnus brought for her and the small plants Angus gifted her as well.
There's nothing left of the Spellman Mortuary and no one in Jeopardy seems to remember it. ]
Fortunato? It'sā it's all gone. I didn't know who else to go toā [ She sniffs loudly. ] It's like it never existed.
[ In some ways, Sabrina calling is a strange relief. Heās felt on eggshells around most people heās close with, since the strange occurences last week- worried about their newfound knowledge of him.
Of course, this isnāt a pleasant call. He thought this might happen, in this changing world. But heās sad for her. ]
[ The sincerity in his voice should be a warm relief to her, but right now Sabrina is on edge, the weight of everything that's ever happened in this world crashing down on her. Her head spins, cohesive thoughts seemingly impossible at this moment. She only feels, and what she feels is an intense melancholy, but a burning rage she can't quell either.
When she speaks again, as terse as her voice is, none of her anger is directed at Fortunato. ]
I can't. It's notā it's not the same.
[ It may have been empty, it may have been worn down, but it was her home. She had a little piece of it here and nothing can convince her that house that sat in Jeopardy was a fake. ]
My home is gone and now Reggie is gone and he was the closest I had to someone from my world. Everything and everyone is disappearing. I just... I just want to go back to my real room, in my real home in Greendale.
[ There's a weird, static-y noise on her end, as if she nearly cuts off the audio. It clears up quickly, but all that can be heard is her crying miserably. ]
[it's quite late. still dark, not quite the morning. there's a light rattling at the backdoor.
fortunato might recognise the noise of a lock being picked-- or attempted to, at least. archie's certainly not terrible at it, but it's taking him longer than he'd like. it's been a while... did magnus change the lock? he could just call but-- no, he's started. might as well see it through...
[ In some ways, it's a small miracle Fortunato sleeps at all. Nightmares are normal; good dreams are frankly odd. He doesn't enjoy sleeping. But he's found he tires easily, and wakes at strange times, even after so long in this world with his sight coming in and out, rather than complete blindness and confinement.
Maybe that's why he's awake at this odd time of night. He's got his bedroom door open to accommodate Alf, who's decided to lie down at the foot of his bed, and for a second he assumes it's nothing if she's not reacting- but she does begin to whine, after a moment, though she doesn't move.
Jesse isn't doing anything either. Maybe...they're not good at being guard dogs. He probably should have expected that.
But that's why he sleeps with the knife Magnus gave him nearby. He should go get Magnus, to see if this is something to worry about- after all, he immediately realizes, he can see absolutely nothing right now. He starts to move quietly out of his room, towards the area of the backdoor, moving toward Magnus' room. ]
[he finally manages to get through, stumbling into the kitchen with a light curse. maybe fort will recognise the voice? he stands up in the middle of the room, hands on his lower back, stretching as he cracks it.]
